Hello, Iām Susan Anderson and I created The Journal of Scottish Yarns in 2021 to share the stories of Scottish textiles, and to celebrate the heritage, people and places that I care so much about.
Scotland has a long and celebrated history of textile making and design: Harris Tweed, Fair Isle knitting, Shetland wool, tartan, kilts, tweed, linen, flax, angora, cashmere and sheep have all played their part in our story, along with the mills, looms and artisans who have crafted our unique and recognisable textures.
I believe that now a new passion for our heritage, craft and skills is emerging: small wool producers, indie dyers and makers all over Scotland are supplying a new generation of designers, knitters, crocheters, retailers and manufacturers with fresh and exciting new products. New collaborations and ideas are putting Scottish textiles on the map again.
We are here to tell their stories, celebrate their designs and showcase the exciting and creative work being done in Scotland today.
Join me on this wonderful journey.
